Day of Action for Vulnerable Children
On Thursday, October 6th HHMV is joining other local organizations dedicated to the welfare of street children and other vulnerable children in the Thika area. We are honored to be able to join these organizations in bringing awareness to the general public about the issues concerning these vulnerable children in Thika, Kenya.
At the Street Children Steering Committee Meeting, Thika District on 20th September, it was noted with considerable concern that increasing numbers of children are dropping out of school to come to the streets in Thika in search of food and money. This problem has been exacerbated by the recent teachers' strike and rampant inflation.
Most of these children can access free or subsidised school feeding programs in nearby local schools and should not be on the streets, exposed to abuse, violence and mistreatment. Members of the public, not aware of existing services, are feeding these children and giving them money, encouraging them to stay on the streets and not return to school.
Day of Action for Vulnerable Children
To combat this challenge and ensure that vulnerable children are not encouraged to come to the streets, all those concerned about children's welfare in the Thika community are joining for a "Day of Action for Vulnerable Children".
Every organization participating will be sending representatives, wearing their respective organization's T-shirts, to be directly sensitizing the public on not feeding children in the streets, not giving them money, not using them for child labor and bringing awareness of the different children's services available.
Every organization is requested to come with as many staff and volunteers as possible. The larger the number of participants, the more substantial impact we can have, benefiting the most vulnerable children in Thika.
